The environmental prize is awarded annually in value of SEK 25,000
The 2023 award winners will be chosen at the press event before the opening of the Båtmässan in Gothenburg on 3 February at 12:00.
The nominees for the Sweboats environmental award 2023 are:
• Eco Teak 50% comes from recycled teak in Indonesia. Recycled means sawdust from the furniture industry. About 23% is recycled HDPE from the cork of water bottles.
• Baltic Safety Products - the fabric made of polyester recycled from PET bottles. The moving material polyethylene is manufactured from recycled industrial waste. Straps etc. produced from new material to meet safety requirements.
• Hempaspeed TF - Hempel Yacht biocide-free antifouling which, thanks to the new technology, can be easily painted over old antifouling. In this way, the product becomes more accessible to more boat owners who want to choose an environmentally friendly alternative.
• Diva 34 SE - major innovation lies in the composite, i.e. all plastic that can be recycled. Diva's construction method means that the material in the hull and deck can be separated and reused. You heat up and separate. This can be done at a number of different facilities both in Sweden and abroad. Then you can reuse the material again and it does not lose much of its properties in the process, i.e. it does not lose strength, for example.
• The Boat Scrap - Båtskroten Sverige AB has been the driving force behind the entire boating industry when it comes to recycling used recreational boats, and they were the initiators of building a national system. It has previously lacked controlled processes and quality-assured actors to take care of used leisure boats, which led to both unnecessary waste.
• Clean Sea - bottles, nets and cans. The company Clean Sea works to clean seas and coasts from waste. Since the beginning of 2019, Clean Sea has done over 200 clean- ups in which they collected over 28,000 kilos of plastic, fishing gear and other rubbish from the sea along the Swedish coast.
• Drive in boat wash - for boat owners who choose not to paint their boat, a boat wash is an environmentally friendly alternative that also contributes to lower fuel consumption.
The Hempaspeed TF launch campaign has not only strengthened the Hempel brand in the eyes of the customers, end-users and press, but also moved us closer to our Yacht sustainability strategy goal – to be the leading innovator of high-performing coating solutions to the market, while minimizing the impact on the environment.
Prize winners from previous years were:
• 2022 The Swedish Boating Union, "Nationella havsmiljökonferensen"
• 2021 Melissa Feldtman, Österåker municipality
• 2020 Institute of the Marine Environment
• 2019 The project "Optimist for the sea"
SWEBOAT is the organization with approx. 400 companies as members. Their main task is to promote and protect common industry interests and make it easier to be a company working in the yachting industry. But, they also work to make it simple, safe and positive to own a boat and be on the lake. They are recognised as the industry's mouthpiece and work actively to highlight the importance and role of the industry and boating in society in general. Through fairs, industry meetings, meetings with politicians to try-on activities, instructional videos and trainings they are also working on the industry sustainability issues with main focus on the environment. They thoroughly believe a boat's entire life cycle must be sustainable, from manufacturing, sale, use and scrapping.
