Follow our step by step instructions
on how to apply Antifoulings products on your boat
Step 1
Ensure you wear suitable protective clothing, including mask and protective glasses.
Step 2
After cleaning, the surface you are going to paint must be abraded to the correct profile.
Step 3
If the surface of your boat is damaged then filling, fairing and priming may be necessary.
Step 4
Apply Light Primer (for the exact number of the layers that needs to be applied check Paint Manual).
Step 5
After the last layer is applied, put the Tiecoat Underwater Primer onto Light Primer. For optimal results overcoat Hempel’s Light Primer with Hempel’s Underwater Primer when the surface is almost dry but still has a slight tacky feel.
Step 6
Pour enough paint for the job into suitable container. Make sure to remove excess paint from the roller. Afterwards, apply Hempel's Underwater Primer.
Step 7
When the surface is dry/almost dry apply the chosen antifouling. To choose the correct antifouling, check our Paint Manual.
Step 8
Open the can with care and mix the product well. Pour enough paint for the job into suitable container. Make sure to remove excess paint from the roller.
Step 9
Apply the antifouling on your boat.
Step 10
Fast application is more important than a very smooth finish. Use a “crisscross” technique, apply from side to side and then from up to down on the same area.
