Their story with Silic One continues across the oceans: “For us, sailing is not only about exploration it’s about making responsible choices. From the beginning, it has been important to use biocide-free solutions that align with our values, while still delivering strong performance.
In early 2023, we fully cleaned and prepared our hull before applying Hempel’s Silic One. By May, our boat was back in the water, ready for a new chapter. Just a few months later, in July, we set sail across Europe and continued on an ambitious Atlantic crossing, eventually reaching the Caribbean.
After more than a year of continuous sailing, we hauled out our boat in September 2024, on this hull out we have painted 2 layers of Hempel’s Silic One top prepare the boat for the Pacific crossing.
Following this journey, now in 2026 we decided to take the next step by applying Hempel’s Infinity, designed to work together with Hempel’s Silic One.
We also took the opportunity to repair worn areas such as the keel, which had been scratched during sailing, and reapplied Silic One where needed. Because the base system was already in place, we found Infinity quick and easy to apply, making the process both efficient and accessible.
To better understand how good is the Silic One performance, we left small sections of the hull untreated, keeping the old conventional antifouling. This allowed us to directly compare the results over time.
The difference was clear. The areas treated with Silic One and Infinity remained smoother and cleaner, while the untreated patches showed more visible fouling.
When we inspected the hull, we found only light algae and a few barnacles near the waterline an outcome that reflected the durability of the system.
Cleaning was also noticeably easier. The buildup released quickly, making maintenance simpler and honestly, quite satisfying."

A proven combination of Hempel products
"After two years of sailing across different waters and conditions, our experience shows that combining Hempel’s Silic One with Hempel’s Infinity delivers reliable and effective performance.
For us, it proves that choosing a biocide-free solution doesn’t mean compromising it means sailing with both confidence and responsibility."
Their story offers a real-life perspective for sailors considering a switch showing that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand on the water.
